Last night was a karting get-together with some of my R/C racing friends. One of them brought along one of his autocross buddies who told some of us how to drive before we got on the track. I was about to say "Uh, hello, see the SCCA CLUB 2006 tech sticker on my helmet," but decided silence and superior driving would get the point across. He wasn't high up in the order when the timesheets were printed out...everyone said their kart sucked, so I guess all was equal in that respect. And no, I wasn't the fastest.
Today I have the usual post-karting soreness in my knees and wrist, excarbated by the fact that I did three sessions consecutively. Maybe I will go there again this winter. It's a good way to stay in mental racing shape. Whatever I learned was probably erased by the beer I drank at home, however. Oh well.
When I opened up my locker at the kart track, I had a voicemail from Tennessee waiting for me. I called an aviary earlier in the day with some questions about some birds they have for sale. So, it looks like I will have yet another new parrot in the next couple of weeks. I am getting another Timneh African Grey (psittacus erithacus timneh for the geeks), just like the one I had last year for a few days before my old roomie accidentally let her out the door. They're a little bit bigger and supposedly more intelligent than a Derbyan Parakeet (psittacula derbiana!) that I have already. I am hoping this Timneh will be as playful as my first, long-lost one. I guess I'll find out soon.

Today was the last day of the San Jose Grand Prix. I returned home in my flagger's whites, and one of my neighbors asked me as I was getting out of my truck: "did you just get home from work?" to which I replied "kind of". He then asked me "Are you a painter?", in obvious reference to my flagger's whites. They were very dirty, especially so after the dumb drifting demonstrations that made me virtually drift to sleep. Trying to explain corner working to the masses who barely understand what a race is is impossible.
I am retiring to some El Toro Ale now. It's not as good as the special Grand Prix IPA that the Rock Bottom Brewing Company fixed up for us on Thursday night. That stuff even got my dad drunk.
current mood: annoyed

Anyone want some turtle soup? Bored at work for a few minutes today.
If I stuck this to my truck, it might get vandalized. Kind of like what happened to my Civic after I stuck Jesus Died on it. "He lives, you know."

What the fuck is up with the multitude of sea turtle stickers on the back of cars' windows these days? Now that I think of it, I don't see them on the back of cars, I see them on the backs of SUV's and minivans. Is everyone Hawaiian or Polynesian or a representative of the Galapagos all of a sudden? I doubt it's an expression of environmental consciousness, considering they're on the back windows of gas guzzlers. The best ones are the big sea turtles with the "flock" of smaller turtles, much like the stick figure decals popular in East San Jo these days boasting how large a family is. Like sea turtles ever see their young. Bah. Pardon my ignorance if I don't know the term for a gaggle of sea turtles.
Tomorrow's project: make roadkill turtle vinyl decals. They'll go underneath the Jesus Died sticker on my bumper.
